Keep Your Diabetes Under Control With a Diabetic Diet

What exactly is a diabetic diet? I am not diabetic, but I know people who are. They often talk about their dietary restrictions, but I have honestly never stopped to ask what exactly they are trying to accomplish with a diabetic diet. I looked into it and found that there are a number of goals for and benefits to a diabetic diet.

First of all, one of the main goals for a diabetic diet is to lower your weight and maintain it. In addition, the diet is designed to help maintain regular glucose levels in your body. Diabetes prevents your body from processing glucose the way it should, so a diabetic diet has to, to some degree, perform that maintenance. In addition, the hope is that a diabetic diet will also help you to maintain healthy lipid levels and keep your blood pressure under control.

\"diabetic Diet\"

Second, a diabetic diet will vary some from person to person. The benefits and assistance to your body from the diabetic diet will depend on what type of diabetes you are trying to treat. Each type has its own challenges and level of restriction on the diet. The important thing to remember, though, is that studies show the effectiveness of a diabetic diet is dependent, not so much on the diet itself, but on how well the patient follows the diet. Given that information, there are still some specifics to keep in mind.

Keep Your Diabetes Under Control With a Diabetic Diet

If, for example, you have type 2 diabetes, your dietary restrictions may not be quite as high. For many of those with type 2, their diabetic diet is really just a simple heart healthy diet. You will likely be advised to avoid excessive fat and to maintain a high fiber diet among other things, but it will be a fairly easy diet to stay with.

If you have type 1 diabetes, though, you will likely have more restrictions. For those with type 1, it will likely be a more individualized diabetic diet. Type 1 is individualized and so after tests are done and medications are prescribed, your diabetic diet will likely be custom designed by your physician or a nutritionist.

A diabetic diet, it turns out, is not just one thing. There area number of dietary methods available to doctors and nutritionists that can help control blood sugar levels for those with diabetes. If one works for you, then there is no reason for you to switch unless something changes. Regulating diabetes is individual, so if you find you are diabetic it is important to talk to your physician about your individual diabetic diet and stick with it.

So what is a diabetic diet? Well, it turns out that there is not one answer. Instead, a diabetic diet is whatever works to regular the blood sugar of the specific patient. Each one is different, but the most important thing to know about a diabetic diet [http://www.dixiejournal.com/category/health-reviews] is that it only works if you stick with it and stay focused on your health.

1800 Calorie Diabetic Diet - What You Should Know Before You Start

There are so many different diabetic diet plans out there, it can be hard to know which one to choose. Some diet plans emphasize the total number of daily calories you can consume, such as the 1800 calorie diabetic diet, or the 1200 calorie diabetic diet. Other diet plans include a focus on lowering the intake of fats or carbs, such as the 1800 calorie low fat diet, or the 1800 calorie low carb diet. Diabetes is a serious illness, and each diabetic has different needs. If you have diabetes, it is especially important that you carefully select the right diet to suit you. To help you with this life-changing decision, we take a look at some of the vital things you should know before you start an 1800 calorie diabetic diet.

Seek Medical Advice

\"1200 Calorie Diabetic Diet\"

The golden rule is: always consult your doctor or health care practitioner before starting any new diet. Your health care provider can help you calculate your individual daily calorie requirements, which is important to consider before you commit to an 1800 calorie diabetic diet plan. Everyone is different, and just because a low calorie diet works for some people, it may not work for everyone. It is important to closely monitor your blood sugar, potassium and medication dosage. If you are taking diabetes medication, it is vitally important that you consult your doctor, as dramatic changes to your diet could cause dangerously low blood glucose levels, known as hypoglycemia.

1800 Calorie Diabetic Diet - What You Should Know Before You Start

Is an 1800 Calorie Diabetic Diet the Way to Go?

As far as low calorie diets go, an 1800 calorie diabetic diet could be regarded as one of the more flexible diets. Compared to other diets, it allows you to eat enough so that you feel more satisfied, while still restricting your calorie intake. However, the downside is that weight loss may be much slower than other low calorie diets, such as a 1200 calorie diet. The diabetes diet plans offered by Medifast, which have shown to be highly successful, actually don't include an 1800 calorie diabetic diet plan.

The plans available include the "Medifast 5 & 1 Plan for Diabetes" (800 - 1000 calories per day), or the "Medifast 4 & 2 & 1 Plan" (1100 - 1300 calories per day), or the "Medifast 5 & 2 & 2 Plan" (1400 - 1600 calories per day). (The numbers in the plan names refer to how many of each type of Medifast meal.) The fact that some popular weight loss programs, such as Medifast, don't offer an 1800 calorie diabetic diet, could suggest that this amount of calories tends to produce less successful weight loss results.

Personalize Your Plan

As a diabetic, your individual condition may be very different to another diabetic's. What's more, your daily calorie requirements and weight loss goals, may also be very different. For this reason, it's important to work closely with your dietitian or health care provider, to find out what your particular needs are and develop a personalized plan. Many diet programs also provide customized plans that may be very beneficial, so feel free to shop around, but always check with your doctor before you commit!

Eating Raw Foods For Diabetes

Diabetes is a serious disease that effects millions of people in the US. And each year the numbers are growing. Diabetes is basically when the human body is unable to break down sugars from food properly. Some people do not make enough of the hormone insulin, others have built up a resistance to it. The high levels of sugar from this can cause devastating effects on the body. Every organ is harmed, and if left untreated diabetes can lead to death.

For most diabetes sufferers, a regular regiment of medications is the only option they think they have. However, we know that a healthy diet and regular exercise is a good way to reduce the effects and limit the risk factors of diabetes.

\"1200 Calorie Diabetic Diet\"

With so many new diagnoses each year, it makes sense to work to prevent diabetes before it begins. Diabetics have special nutritional needs. In fact, nutrition is one of the most important ways of controlling diabetes. Eating a healthy diet, like a raw food diet, fits in well with a diabetic's unique needs and provides endless healthy benefits.

Eating Raw Foods For Diabetes

Here are some tips to eating a raw diet for diabetics:

Eat a wide variety of fruits and vegetables each day.

Avoid processed foods, such as white flour and white rice. Choose whole grains instead.

Limit starchy vegetables, as starches turn to sugar in the body.

Lentils and beans are a great source of protein.

This type of diet can be eaten by a diabetic for optimal health. In a raw diet, the foods would be left raw so that their complete nutrition could be absorbed. Some raw foods can be dried, and many eat raw sprouts for additional nutrients. Meats, dairy, and other animal products would be completely avoided.

People that eat a raw food diet reduce their risk for many diseases. High blood pressure, heart disease, and some cancers can be avoided by a diet rich in fruits and vegetables. For a person with diabetes, the raw food diet can be the perfect choice.

By sticking to the dietary guidelines, eating a raw diet can help a diabetic in so many ways. This type of diet helps a person to lose weight. Obesity is a common risk factor for diabetes, making it incredibly important to eliminate. Eating the foods raw allows the body to absorb all of the naturally occurring enzymes. This aids in digestion and allows the body to get the most possible nutrients.

The more raw foods a person eats, the more their body is able to get exactly what it needs. Diabetes is a serious disease, and any changes should be discussed with a qualified physician first. The raw diet is still unknown to many people, so you may need to provide additional information to your doctor. Many doctors are happy to see their patients making this leap towards better health.

The 1200 Diabetic Diet Plan - Eating Right

On average, you will probably be eating between 40 to 55 percent of your total daily calories in the form of carbohydrates. A 1200-calorie diabetic diet plan gets 50% of its calories from carbohydrates, 30% from fat and 20% from protein; so it would contain 600 calories from carbohydrates. That translates to 150 grams of carbohydrates, where 1 gram equals 4 calories, or just about 10 carbohydrate exchanges or choices for the day.

Keep in mind that this is an average. Some people with diabetes may find that a lower percentage of carbohydrates offers them better control.

\"1200 Calorie Diabetic Diet\"

With regards to the 1200-calorie diabetic diet plan, many people find this program constructive and effective. However, it is still recommended that you talk to your registered dietitian first before you start on any type of diet plan. A registered dietitian will work with you and help you understand the meaning and concept behind carbohydrate counting or carb counting and the diabetic exchange system. These two methods are commonly used to obtain the 1200-calorie objective.

The 1200 Diabetic Diet Plan - Eating Right

Carb Counting

Even if you follow your meal plan to the letter, you are still going to find that certain foods will give you a bigger spike in glucose levels than expected. You may also find that other foods you expected to pump up your readings barely bump the meter. That is the individual nature of diabetes.

For this reason, carb counting is an invaluable tool in figuring out the amount of carbohydrates given in every meal and eventually helps you understand the possible effects of such amount in your blood glucose levels.

Carb counting involves calculating the grams of carbohydrate eaten in a given meal. In theory, regulating carb intake means controlling your blood glucose levels.

Match Your Diet To Your Needs How many carbohydrates you eat in a given day depends on your unique caloric, medical, and lifestyle needs. An active teenager will have a greater carbohydrate requirement than an inactive adult.

So for instance, if you want to use 1200-calorie diabetic diet plan, be sure that you fit into one of the following categories: (a) your body build is medium and you do not exercise much, (b) you are a small or medium person who wants to lose weight, or (c) you are a small person who exercises a lot.

Again, the first step in establishing a carb-counting plan to achieve your 1200-calorie diabetic diet plan is sitting down with a registered dietitian who will discuss your medical history, eating habits, lifestyle, and medication routines, and come up with a plan for how much carbohydrates you should be eating and when they should be consumed.

Choices versus Grams

There are a couple of different variations on the carb-counting theme to achieve 1200-calorie diabetic diet plan. Basic carb gram counting is simply calculating the actual grams of carbohydrates consumed and ensuring they do not exceed a pre-established limit. Another popular method is carb choice.

Since a dietary exchange of starch or fruit carbohydrates is equivalent to 15 grams of carbohydrates, many dietitians use the "15 grams per serving" value as a "rule of thumb" in teaching carb counting, especially to those patients who are already familiar with exchange lists. Each 15-gram serving is called a "carb choice," and instead of establishing a total number of carbohydrate grams for the day, you will work with your dietitian to determine a total number of carb choices.

This method works well with 1200-calorie diabetic diet plan. For example, for those who want to achieve 1200-calorie diet, it is recommended that you take 10 servings of carbohydrates in a day. These servings will be subdivided into different meals of the day.

For example, you may take 2 servings of carbohydrates at breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, and dinner provided that you do not take any carbohydrates for the evening snack. When applying carb counting, keep in mind that 1 carb choice or 1 serving is equivalent to approximately 15 grams of carbohydrates.

The choice method may not be as exact as calculating carbs strictly by the label, since it involves a certain degree of estimation, but it is close enough for most people. Talk to your dietitian about the method that works best for you.

Dietary Exchanges

Dietary exchange system has three food group types represented in the exchange lists: the carbohydrate group, the meat and meat substitutes group, and the fat group. Each list within each group contains food with a similar carbohydrate, protein, fat, and calorie content.

When you sit down with your dietitian, she will work with you to specify a certain number of each type of exchanges for your meals based on your 1200-calorie goal. Hence, you can think of dietary exchanges like trading cards. Any food on a particular list can be swapped with another on the same list.

Indeed, this 1200-calorie diabetic diet plan has soared in popularity thanks to medical media icons who have painstakingly demonstrated and explained the good effects of such diet programs. However, the jury is still out on their long-term safety. If you would want to try this type of diabetic diet plan, talk with your registered dietitian and your doctor about a safe approach that is right for you.

Diabetes Type 2 Food

Each year hundreds of people are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, which happens to be the most frequent type of diabetes. At first many may feel hopeless after being diagnosed but there is hope. There are many ways to improve diabetes and the best is by following a healthy diet.

First, you should cut back on sugary foods as much as possible (completely if you can, but as we all know, this is quite tough). However cutting down sugars is not the only important thing to do. People with type 2 diabetes must also be aware of being at a healthy weight.

\"1200 Calorie Diabetic Diet\"

Nearly 90% of those with Type 2 diabetes are overweight, which is very unhealthy. It is important to eat less carbs and calories to lose weight and eat more healthy fats to control your glucose and lose weight. By following these steps you will easily start to lose weight.

Diabetes Type 2 Food

Once again, a big part losing weight for those with Type 2 diabetes is to cut down on sugar. It is also very important to check that your sugar level does not increase or decrease quickly. It is also suggested that you eat 6 small meals through the day instead of three big meals. For some it is helpful to keep a journal of the foods you are eating to see how you are progressing. Record in your food diary what you eat and about how many calories each food had.

In addition, keep track of all your exercise activities, and be sure to note down how long you exercised for. Doing this will help you to see where you need to improve and to keep yourself motivated in order to reach your goal. Following a diet is not easy but motivating yourself with these tips can help you be successful.

Apple Diet - It Works For Weight Loss, But Beware of 1 Version Of This Diet

Ever hear of the apple diet? It's a popular weight loss diet that has numerous versions and spin-offs. A lot of these versions are healthy and work for weight loss, however 1 version you must absolutely avoid.

First, why the apple diet works...

Diet

A big reason on why the apple diet works has to do with the high water content and high amount of fiber in each apple. The high water content allows you to "eat water" basically. The foods you mostly "eat water" with are generally low in calories, but very filling. For example, a 300-calorie candy bar won't fill you up, but 300-calories worth of apples will.

Apple Diet - It Works For Weight Loss, But Beware of 1 Version Of This Diet

Another reason why the apple diet works is because each apple has 5 grams of fiber in it. It has both soluble and insoluble fiber. Having a high fiber intake is a big part of successful long term weight loss programs.

The average American only gets about 12 grams of fiber each day. It's recommended that you get 25 grams of fiber each day. I, however, advocate getting 35-50 grams of fiber each day for easy long term weight loss.

There are 2 rules to the apple diet...

Rule #1: Eat 1 apple before each meal

This is the main rule. Very simple, huh?

Just eat 1 apple before each of 3 meals. Nothing more. I won't even tell you to stop eating your favorite foods. Obviously, if you eat a little bit more healthy, you'll increase the speed in which you lose weight... but I won't force you to eat healthier.

Rule #2: Don't forget rule #1

Seriously, there is just 1 rule to the apple diet. However I want to add that I've found that my clients who have tried the apple diet get better results simply by following rule #1 and eating healthy snacks.

That's all you need to change in your diet... eat an apple before each of 3 meals... and eat healthy snacks. You can continue to eat more unhealthy type of foods for your meals. Just don't eat unhealthy snacks!

So, if you want an easy weight loss plan that isn't complicated and doesn't require much thinking on your part, try the apple diet.

Diabetic Diet: How Tangerines and Oranges Can Help Cure Diabetes

Don't let anyone fool you. It is possible to cure type 2 diabetes and you can include many foods in your diabetic diet that contain substances that help cure diabetes.

Recent research proves that tangerines and oranges contain a substance called nobiletin that helps to cure diabetes. Specifically, nobiletin prevents the build up of fat in the liver and the subsequent over productive of insulin due to increasing glucose in the blood. Nobiletin also prevents the build-up of arterial plaque which causes heart disease and stroke.

\"diabetic Diet\"

Nobiletin is a very powerful antioxidant in a family of antioxidants called flavonoids. Antioxidants eradicate free radicals in the body that can lead to cancer, a compromised immune system, and a weakened body that can make it ripe for the development of diabetes. The underlying causes of all of these disorders are the same.

Diabetic Diet: How Tangerines and Oranges Can Help Cure Diabetes

Tangerines contain more nobiletin than do oranges but both have a good quantity. Nobiletin is not found in lemons or grapefruit however. However, as an example of how variety is always good, lemons help diabetics in many other ways including very significantly lowering the glycemic index of any food it is added to and making your cells less insulin resistant.

The nobiletin is found in the tissues of the fruit and in the peel so just drinking juice is not as good as eating the whole fruit for this benefit. Grated peel is also a very tasty addition to salads and stirfries. You can also seep tangerine or orange peel in hot water for an excellent and very healthy tea. In fact, tangerine peel is has a mildly sweet flavor as a tea.

You really can can cure diabetes through diet and other natural means. I know because I cured my diabetes this way. I went from a HgAC1 of 10.6 to less than 6 (my last reading was 5.2) in less than 6 months and I've been able to keep it that way for quite a long time now. When I was first diagnosed, they were giving me insulin and then they wanted me to take a variety of prescription drugs for life.

They kept talking about how my disease would progress like it was a definite foregone conclusion this would happen. I finally said, "NO!" to the drugs, shopped around to find another doctor who would support my efforts to cure my diabetes naturally, and educated myself extensively on what to eat and what not to eat - and much of it is not as intuitive as you might think!

Diabetic Diet: How Tangerines and Oranges Can Help Cure Diabetes

If you want to cure your diabetes naturally (or prevent your pre-diabetes from developing into full blown diabetes), what you need is a complete step-by-step well-organized guide that will give you all the information you need to cure your diabetes from one single source. This is one of the best guides available. You don't have to settle for taking pills and shots your whole life.

5 Diabetic Diet Foods to Regulate Blood Sugar

It is quite unfortunate that many people with diabetes are not able to stretch their tongue to sweets. They have no other go except to avoid sweets as far as possible. Still, there is no strict prohibition for the intake of sweets. Of course, very small quantity of sweets intake is no problem until it is in close bounds. Here is a list of diabetic diet foods taken for brief description.

Cinnomon:

\"diabetic Diet\"

There are strong evidences that cinnamon can help reduce sugars. I hope it can fairly help control sugar intake of daily foods what usually a diabetic eats. The function of the ingredient called MHCP (Methylhydroxychalcone Polymer) in reducing blood sugar levels is the same as what insulin does. Cinnamon extracts are commonly used as spices in sweet dishes. It has been proven that a few cinnamon spices can be one of the best diabetic diet foods to regulate blood sugar.

5 Diabetic Diet Foods to Regulate Blood Sugar

Cherries:

Cherry is a fleshy stone fruit. Many research studies have submitted reports on cherries about their characteristics to eliminate blood sugars and reduce insulin needs. Cherries are used by many in recipes to add delicious flavor. It has been established that Cherry-enriched diet can help to reduce risk factors for cardiovascular disease.

Berries:

Berry is a fleshy fruit ripe in a single ovary like grapes. It has also been found true that berries such as blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, cranberries, and raspberries do not elevate blood sugar level though they are sweet content. Berries are great sources of vitamins that can be highly helping to improve health. Berries are good antioxidants that can help strengthen blood vessels.

Vinegar:

Studies on Clinical Nutrition have reported that vinegar is potent to lower glucose levels of non-diabetic patients. However, the result holds in the case of diabetics also. If vinegar is added to recipes or directly consumed in very little quantity it can work well and reduce insulin needs.

Wine:

Alcohol can be a medicine if it is consumed in extreme moderation in which case it can help lower blood sugar. The negative effects of consuming excessive alcohol should be kept in mind. Though a very small amount of alcohol is doing good things for diabetics, it is never recommended to start drinking wine to control blood sugar.

Eating diabetic diet foods alone can't help a diabetic to reduce sugar in blood. Daily exercise routine is a must to help regulate blood sugar.

Cucumbers and Pickles in the Diabetic Diet

Ancient Asian medicine taught that the cucumber detoxified the liver. Modern science has partially confirmed this property of the fruit. Experiments with laboratory animals confirm that cucumber protects liver cells against damage by the chemotherapy drug cyclophosphamide and the common pollutant benzo[a]pyrene. There may be a measurable extent to which diabetics would find raw cucumbers "detoxifying" in a diabetic diet, but to be honest, no scientific research conclusively confirms that benefit. There is just good reason to suppose the occasional fresh cucumber would be of benefit to diabetics who take multiple prescriptions.

That isn't to say there's no scientific research about the value of cucumbers in diabetic diets.

\"diabetic Diet\"

The more important health property of pickled cucumbers is their ability to offset the "whiteness" of white bread, white rice, and potatoes. Eating pickled cucumbers with these foods slows down the rate at which they release sugars into the bloodstream. Organic acids created in the pickling process also signal the pancreas not to release excess insulin, limiting the conversion of sugars into body fat. Fresh cucumbers do not have this effect.

Cucumbers and Pickles in the Diabetic Diet

How do you preserve the nutritional value of fresh cucumbers?

Cucumbers should not be washed until just before they are used. They do not have to peeled unless the peel has been waxed; scoring the peel with the tines of a fork tenderizes it. Older cucumbers may have bitter seeds that should be removed before serving. Yellowing of a dark-green skin means the entire cucumber has become bitter and should be discarded.

The simplest cucumber salad is a toss of peeled cucumber in vinegar. You can add basil, chile, chives, cilantro, curry powder, dill, fish sauce, garlic, oregano, peppers, plum sauce, rosemary, Tabasco, or Worchestershire sauce to taste to season the salad. Other vegetables, such as green onions, green peppers, jicama, purple peppers, red peppers, yellow peppers, or tomatoes and even chili peppers and peanuts are compatible with cucumbers, as are apple, mango, orange, papaya, and watermelon. You can make a creamy cucumber salad by adding sour cream or yogurt, but serve the salad quickly after adding any creamy ingredient.

The Type 2 Diabetic Diet and Exercise Routine

For adults diagnosed with adult onset type 2 diabetes most health care professionals agree that the best way to control its effects are with a type 2 diabetic diet and exercise. Although some people are genetically predisposed to contracting diabetes most cases are caused by poor lifestyle choices centered around bad diet, obesity, and a lack of exercise. Reversing the damage caused by years of un-healthy living is hard to do but if the specter of type 2 diabetes is looming over your long term health it is vitally important to change the way you live to best control the long term consequences that diabetes is known for.

Since both type 1 and type 2 diabetes are major health issues it is important to consult you doctor before starting any new diet or exercise plan. Your doctor can get you started in the right direction and recommend a dietician who specializes in the type 2 diabetic diet. The dietician can help taylor a customized diabetic meal plan to your specific needs. There will be foods that are for the most part off limits but in most cases moderation is the key to combating this disease and the health issues it is directly responsible for.

\"diabetic Diet\"

Probably the biggest dietary change for the type 2 diabetic is cutting sugar and simple carbohydrates out of their diet. Sodas, candy, and baked goods are to be avoided because they pose the greatest threat to the diabetic; hyperglycemia otherwise known as high blood sugar.

The Type 2 Diabetic Diet and Exercise Routine

Instead of the empty calories to be found in high sugar and processed foods you should eat a diet of nutrient rich foods that provide the necessary health benefits that only they can provide. Fruits, vegetables, and protein from lean meats and nuts are a good place to start with a type 2 diabetic diet. These foods and others provide a good mix of nutrients including complex carbohydrates which provide you with a steady supply of energy throughout the day and keep your blood sugar levels consistent.

The other important aspect of the diet for those with type 2 diabetes is how often you eat during the day. Instead of eating two or three big meals you need to be eating five or six smaller meals throughout the day. This helps avoid the big blood sugar spikes that are associated with eating big meals. Eating smaller meals will keep you blood sugars at a steady level which is easier to control.

Step 2 in properly controlling the effects of your diabetes is a regular exercise routine. Any type of exercise is a good thing and if you do nothing more then go for regular walks you are off to a good start. As you progress and your health improves and your diabetes comes under control you can add to your routine if you wish. Join a gym, go for bike rides, yoga, aerobics, or any other physical activity you enjoy are all good ways to add variety to your program.

The complications caused by type 2 diabetes can be easily managed and avoided by following a sensible type 2 diabetic diet plan and exercise program. By making these simple lifestyle changes and staying healthy you can control your diabetes and live your life to the fullest.

Diabetic Diet - Get Your Blood Sugar Level Lower Rapidly - Part One

All diabetics need to start on a special diabetic diet that is geared toward consuming less sugar and carbohydrates. They must stay on this diet because if they get too much sugar in their body, it will cause the pancreas to start working harder to process the sugar into energy. The more sugar they consume, the harder their pancreas will work. The sugar will soon build up in their system because the pancreas will not be able to handle it all, which can lead to serious health problems.

Once the sugar is built up in your system for a long period of time, health problems can arise. The sugar will start by destroying your blood vessels. It will soon move on to much bigger organs and can cause you to develop heart disease, kidney disease, nerve damage and vision problems. So in order to prevent this from happening and to help keep your body healthy, you need to find out how to effectively lower your blood sugar level.

\"diabetic Diet\"

One way to lower your blood sugar is to eat the spice cinnamon. It effectively lowers your blood sugar level by slowing down how fast your stomach processes the food you put in it. A good way to eat this would be to just sprinkle cinnamon on some oatmeal each morning. However, eating a Cinnabon cinnamon roll does not count.

Diabetic Diet - Get Your Blood Sugar Level Lower Rapidly - Part One

Apple cider vinegar is additional way to lower the amount of sugar in your system. All it takes is to consume 2 tablespoons before each meal and before you go to sleep at night. Doctors suggest the vinegar lowers your sugar level by digesting the starch that is in your foods very slowly.

Water is another great way to lower your blood sugar level. The water dilutes the sugar that is in your blood which is then excreted from your system. The more water you drink, the better your sugar level will be.

The herb ginseng also helps. It is thought that it lowers your blood sugar level by increasing your insulin and sugar uptake in your cells and by slowing down your digestion of your food. The best way to take this would be as a cup of ginseng tea prior to eating your diabetic diet meals to ensure that your blood levels do not get too low.

Having a recurring exercising schedule can also you keep the sugar level down. This technique works real fast in getting your blood sugar lower because of how your body burns off the energy. Your body will first take the energy it needs from the extra sugar floating around in your blood.

Diabetics are faced everyday with trying to keep their blood sugar at a steady level by eating a diabetic diet although this can be very hard at times. There are always those occasions where we just can help ourselves and we have to cheat and eat sweets, like at Christmas time. By utilizing these 5 points mentioned, you can still cheat (rarely) and keep your blood sugar at a normal rate as possible.

Is Honey Allowed In Diabetic Diet?

The diabetic diet is strictly controlled in terms of sugar and mineral compounds intake. Hence it's not surprising that "whether honey is allowed for diabetic patients" is a frequently asked question for Benefits of Honey.

Diabetes is a deficiency of the pancreas, whereby insulin is not produced sufficiently or utilised properly. It's basically a disorder of metabolism, primarily that of carbohydrates. The ingested sugars and starches cannot be deployed, and hence are eliminated in the urine. Symptoms of diabetes include frequent urination, extreme thirst or hunger, weight loss, fatigue, numbness, and infections. There are 2 types of diabetes. In type 1 diabetes, the body doesn't produce any insulin, whereas, people with type 2 diabetes either don't produce enough insulin or their cells resist the insulin, and they tend to be overweight, because the high insulin levels, unable to channel glucose into muscle cells, convert glucose into fat and cholesterol instead. This results not only in obesity, but also very often heart disease, poor blood circulation in the legs and eye diseases. While type 1 diabetes is treated with insulin injections, which help glucose get into the body cells and maintain blood glucose control, type 2 diabetics commonly use glucose-lowering drugs. Most diabetics are type 2 and are usually in their 40s.

\"diabetic Diet\"

With appropriate control, many diabetics and pre-diabetes (people with blood glucose levels higher than normal person but not high enough to be considered diabetic) are still able to safely enjoy natural honey. Before incorporating honey into their meal planning, find out how much of the sweet liquid can be consumed on a daily basis. Each diabetic is different and should learn how his or her body reacts to different foods containing carbohydrates. Bear in mind that the total amount of starches or carbohydrates in a food is the key consideration, not the amount of sugar. Honey is a carb food as well, just like rice, potatoes, thus just keep in mind that 1 tablespoon of honey has approximately 17 grams of carbohydrate, and taking that into account when counting your total daily intake of carbohydrates, diabetics can work it out just like any other sweetener or carbohydrates. To monitor response to honey, blood sugar levels could be noted before consumption and again two hours later. Also, when purchasing commercial honey for diabetic patients, be sure that it is pure and not adulterated by glucose, starch, cane sugar, and even malt, which is to better to be avoided in a diabetic diet.

Is Honey Allowed In Diabetic Diet?

You get (99 per cent of the time) a "no-no" answer when you ask doctors if honey is allowed for diabetics. This is not surprising as the idea of eating honey to regulate blood glucose seems rather counter intuitive. But did they ever tell you that clinical studies have shown that pure honey is a healthier choice in diabetic diet than table sugar and any other non-nutritive sweeteners such as Splenda, saccharin, aspartame? Honey requires lower levels of insulin compared to regular white sugar and does not raise blood sugar levels as rapidly as table sugar, that is, it has a lower Glycemic Index than sugar. Though honey contains a significant amount of sugar, it consists largely of two simple individual units of sugar - glucose and fructose, which are absorbed at different rates into the body. In fact, Dr Ron Fessenden reveals in his book, The Honey Revolution that "the more glucose intolerant one is, the lower the blood sugar response after honey ingestion versus the higher the blood sugar response after consuming sucrose or glucose". The book further explains why honey is able to perform this remarkable regulatory role. The perfect one-to-one ratio of fructose and glucose found in honey facilitates glucose intake to the liver, hence preventing an overload of glucose entering the blood circulation. And nature's honey is the only sugar that possesses this special ability.

Next, the use of monosaccharide fructose is often recommended to sweeten the diet of diabetics due to its significantly lower GI. The trouble is, fructose is absorbed differently than other sugars. It is not utilized for energy like glucose, but stored in the liver as triglycerides. This presents a great metabolism burden on the liver and can eventually lead to major health issues related to obesity and further health damages for diabetics. Sadly, in their quest to avoid sugar in foods, many diabetics miss the point when they start to plan their diet around "fructose fruit sugar", "diabetic birthday cake", "NutraSweet ice-cream", "sugar-free candies", etc, which all contain corn syrup or artificial sweetners that can be potentially even more harmful than regular sugar when consumed in the long term.

Diabetic Diet: How Lemon and Lemon Water Can Help Cure Diabetes

I started buying fresh lemons by the bag after I found out how they can help cure diabetes. They are quite literally a miracle from Mother Nature! I have always loved fresh lemon but now I make an extra effort to eat lots of them. In fact, I believe lemons should be an important staple in every diabetic diet.

Lemon Lowers the Glycemic Index of Other Foods

\"diabetic Diet\"

Research has shown that lemon lowers the glycemic index of any food it is added to. And... we are not talking a few points here. The drop is very significant! To benefit from this, all you have to do is add a little squeeze of fresh lemon over your food. Almost like waving a magic wand, this will instantly lower the glycemic index of your meal. Best of all, lemon is such an excellent flavor enhancer, it makes many foods taste better too. I often add a squeeze of fresh lemon to a hot bowl of soup (yum!), casseroles, stove top goulashes, almost any kind of salad (including salads containing fruit), and sauteed vegetables (especially greens!). Anything with chicken or fish of course tastes especially good with lemon. Please note that it is best to add the fresh lemon right before you eat the food. If you cook it in soup, for example, it can become a little bitter and the health benefits won't be quite as great.

Diabetic Diet: How Lemon and Lemon Water Can Help Cure Diabetes

Have A Glass of Lemon Water First Thing In the Morning

A glass of lemon water is the perfect way for a diabetic to start the day. Most people start their day with coffee (very acidic) and food that shift the pH of the body toward the acid side. However, if you shift the pH back toward the alkaline side, you will notice your blood sugar will go down. Moreover, your cell membranes will become more sensitive to insulin - i.e. you will be LESS insulin resistant. In fact, this will actually aid your body in repairing those damaged cell membranes.

Although lemons contain a weak acid, when they are metabolized by the body they have an alkalizing effect. If fact, they are the strongest alkalizing food you can eat! This is why adding lemon to your diet can go a long way toward restoring the pH of your body to the alkaline side where it should be. It has been found that most diabetics have a very acidic body pH (as have cancer patients). Bringing back to the alkaline side will go a long way toward helping to cure your diabetes.

Making lemon water is very easy. Just squeeze the juice from a half lemon (or a full lemon if you are a larger person) into a glass of water, swirl it around a little, and drink it up. Do this first thing in the morning on an empty stomach before you have your coffee or breakfast.

Lemons Have TWICE the Vitamin C As Oranges

This was a fact that surprised me as you always hear that orange juice is so loaded with vitamin C. Well, the orange's citrus cousin has it beat with twice the vitamin C. Most people don't realize but vitamin C is an extremely powerful antioxidant. It is important to note that vitamin taken in the form of food is MUCH better absorbed by the body than vitamin C taken in the form of a pill!

Vitamin C is at least part of the reason lemons interact with the cell membrane and make it less insulin resistant. However, vitamin C also have other very important benefits to the diabetic as well. For example, it increases the production of collagen which strengthens blood vessels. This is key since many diabetics have problems with circulation and arterial damage.

Aids In Repairing Digestion

Most diabetics have impaired digestive enzymes and lowered acidity in the stomach. This means that they don't always reap the full benefit from the nutritious food they eat. Lemon goes a long way toward curing this problem as well.

1200 Calorie Diabetic Exchange Diet Allows Variations of Food

A 1200 calorie diabetic diet limits intake of carbohydrates, fats and proteins so that you get only 1200 calories per day and nothing more than that. You can use this diet to control blood sugar or to lose weight. You can take the help of a registered dietitian to plan your diet. While planning your diet always keep in mind that instead of large meals take small meals and increase number of meals, for example replace the regular three meal pattern (that is breakfast, lunch and dinner) with a six meal pattern by adding snacks between the meals. Always give preference to fresh food instead of refined and processed foods. Drink lots of water because it is calorie free and helps to flush away the toxins.

A 1200 calorie diet healthy breakfast will include one wheat bread with low fat butter or a cup of cereal with a boiled egg and one small fruit. For a lunch options are mixed salad, baked potato, and French bread pizza. You can also include some vegetables like broccoli, bell peppers, cabbage etc. For a dinner choose grilled chicken or fish and pasta salad or mix vegetable salad with some dressing. To ensure the right quantities of these foods you can take the help of a dietitian.

\"1200 Calorie Diabetic Diet\"

To plan a 1200 calorie diet above food list is not compulsory and you can make variation of foods and also manage calorie intake. This can be done with the exchange system. The exchange food system provides information about food content from which you can easily estimate calories in any food. It also helps to maintain the balance of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats throughout the day. Before developing diet plans you must know your nutritional requirement in terms of calories, then select the food from exchange list and plan your daily meal according to your calorie requirement.

1200 Calorie Diabetic Exchange Diet Allows Variations of Food

The exchange system contains six different lists of foods and food from each exchange group is well defined so that one serving of each food contains the same amount of carbohydrates, proteins, and fat. These groups are starch/bread, vegetables, fruit, milk, meat and fat. From each food list a certain number of exchange choices are allowed, but amount and type of these exchanges are based on a daily exercise, insulin injections, blood pressure and body weight. The food substitution can be done only within an exchange list but not between lists even if they have the same calorie count. In the exchange lists some foods are free; these foods contain less than 20 calories per serving.

In 1200 calorie diet you can include per day five exchanges of starch/bread exchange group, two exchanges of vegetable group, three exchanges of fruit group, two exchanges of milk group, four exchanges of meat and three exchanges of fat group. Each exchange of starch/bread group contains 80 calories. In vegetable exchange group each group contains 5 grams of proteins, 5 grams of carbohydrates and 2 grams of fiber.
